Amazing Sankhuwa Sabha

Sankhuwa Sabha is one of the hill districts of Nepal which is situated in the eastern development region. The name of the district comes from two sister streams. One is Sankhuwa and the other one is Sabha becomes Sankhuwa Sabha with an area of 3480 square kilometres. It is bordered by the Everest region to the west, to the east by Jaljala Himalayan region, to the North by Tibet and to the south by mighty Arun River. According to the last national census conducted in 2001, it had a population of 1592203. The district consists of 36 VCDs. Khandbari is the headquarter of the district.
Sankhuwa Sabha is famous for Mt Makalu the 5th tallest mountain in the world (8463m) and Arun Valley which is one of the lowest valleys in the world at just about 435 above sea level. Which are the main tourist attractions in this place. There are many areas still unoccupied in the northern part of the district.
It spans a massive ecological zone covering 2330 sq km. Where can be found spectacular displays of wildflowers and attractive plants including different kinds of Primroses and Rhododendrons. More than 3.000 species of plants and 400 bird species in this area protected by known as Makalu-Barun National park and conservation area.
What a contrast within a small span of area. From lowest valley to the 5th tallest mountain in the world. Sankhuwa Sabha district is blessed with great deal of diversity of natural beauty.
